There's an interesting article in the current Newsweek
about the peopling of America. Apparently,
archaeologists have now found enough skeletons that
don't look like they walked across the supposed Bering
land bridge from Siberia that they are coming up with
a new story about how America was populated.
The new story has people coming from both Europe and
Asia in skin boats. So perhaps the antiquity of the
craft that we emulate is much greater than first
thought. Under the old theory, people walked to
America and then invented skin boats when they got
here. Under the new theory, people already knew how
to build boats when they got here.
