I would like to build a baidarka and I am considering workshops and a kit
source. Please give me any information about the following. I need you
help.
1. Kayak Way workshops. Have any of you done a workshop? Can I build a
custom fit in his workshops? I like the idea of starting from scratch.
2. Spirit Line Kayaks - The web site is down. He was written up in the New
York Times and apparently is willing to build light custom fit boats in his
workshops. I have lower extremity disability and this sounds good to me.
Have any of you done a workshop?
3. Handcrafted Kayaks-Randy Monge- He has kits for sale. They are
neotraditional and seem to be made for paddling. I intend to use my new
kayak for day trips and weekends. Do any of you know any thing about these
kits? I like his cockpit opening because of my leg problems. Can they be
built light? Weight carrying is an item for me.
4. Bruce Lemon kits and Kayaks seem to have less foot room and smaller
cockpit opening so this seems less desirable. Also these kayaks seem to be
heavier than either Spirit Line Kayaks or Kayak Way.
Will there be skinboats at the West Coast Symposium?
Should I consider any thing else? I would like enough stability to take a
picture and to fish but I am secure in the water. Main use will be coastal
and Chesapeake Bay. Should I consider a Greenland Kayak? Whose?
Thank you for your help.
