That's the whole point of building your own boat, you get to determine
what it means to you. If you want those lines to be spirit lines,
who's going to stop you?
If an anthropologist interviews you, you can tell him those lines in
the gunwales are spirit lines and then wink so he doesn't know if
you're pulling his leg or not.
