With my bending jig, I found that when I got to the narrower ribs I
had to make a second set of forms to allow the fixture to close far
enough. Once I has a proper set of forms, these didn't seem to be any
harder to bend than the others. One thing that helps a lot is starting
the sharpest part of the bend as soon as you pull the rib out of the
box.
I expect you're right about the disappearing lumps. My boat had a few
when it was new, but it's nice and smooth now.
