This source may have been given previously but Kestrel Tool (800-669-3943)
seems to be the place to get adzes and crooked knives. The March/April
issue WoodenBoat has a description of their catalog and those of four other
companies.
Harry Bryan also wrote a nice article for WoodenBoat on building a metal
soled 7in smoothing plane with hand tools. The sole is just a piece of
1inx2in steel channel and the adjustment mechanism is made from standard
gas-appliance fittings. My kind of tool :-)).
