This is also the method suggested by Gougeon bros in their Gougeon bros
manual for boatbuilding. They claim that bonded cleats on a trimaran
hold up the boat when moored during an hurricane.

I have experimented it with success, although I would not (perhaps I
have already) fly in a glued structure.

As a matter of fact, also wood oxidizes and a freshly exposed surface is
critical in any glue bonding.
