I have a simple test. When paddling at your racing speed watch the hole
behind the paddle. If the hole is more than 1/2" deep or you can see air
traveling down the back of the blade then you need a larger blade. If you
cannot get ventilation at maximum power (sprinting) then you probably can
use a smaller blade. This method works surprisingly well. As you get
stronger your blade should get larger

interesting tips on how to size paddle blades.
do you (or does anyone) have anything to say/recommend with respect to the
differences between plant the blade for kayaking and canoeing?
other words of wisdon or folklore concerning paddling strokes are out there?
i'd like to hear the places that folks get callauses on their hands from
kayaking/canoeing.. mine from canoeing are across my fingers and palms.
those from kayaking are on my thumbs. what does palm reading tell us?
i've only gotten callauses on my little toes when i wear sandles and rub
against the side of my kayak.
