Anyone ever tried Lagging compounds for coating their kayak skins? These
have recently come to my attention from Larry Bowers who has used it on his
canvas covered canoes for the last ten years with great satisfaction. These
are used to treat the canvas wrappings of pipe insulation, and are available
from industrial insulation suppliers.

They reportedly, according to their fact sheets, have high abrasion
resistance and wide service temperature ranges, something like -29 to +85
degrees centigrade. They are cleaned up with water. Non flammable when
wet, and fire resistant when dry. It is also supposed to be very good as a
fabric adhesive. Dry time to touch is 3 hours, through is 12-36 hours.
>From reports from builder friends, the surface finish that is possible is
very good.

Two products have come to my attention:

Bakore 120-09

and Childers "Chil-seal" CP-50-A

This stuff almost sounds too good to be true. I hope that it is as good as
it is reported to be
