Hello Phil,
My replica of the Bkr.13-- The BritishMuseum's Disko Bay kayak, weighs 26
pounds. The scantlings amidship are as measured by John, but the end
construction could throw the weight off some 5 pounds, plus-or-minus.
Wolfgang's superb drawing of the contruction looks very much like my final
result. The wood I used was second growth Cypress (light!) with oak frames
and coaming. The keel and end-boards were of fir. I used an 8oz. Nylon with
polyurethane coating. My example is likely lighter than would be normal--
perhaps 30# or so would be more likely.
Harvey
P.S. I'll be building another High-Sterned West Greenland kayak replica-- an
older model this time, likely from the 1600's. The ends are much finer
(thinner), and longer than the BM Disko Bay kayak. I'll photo-document the
construction for my web page-- likely late January or so.
