Hi Skip,
I only found a mention on page 534 of Ales Hrdlicka's THE
ALEUTIAN AND COMMANDER ISLANDS (1945). Laughlin mentions it
as well in ALEUTS: SURVIVORS OF THE BERING LAND BRIDGE
(1980): "The skeletons confirm the muscular appearance, with
unusually large prominences on the upper arm bone, as well
as large and well defined muscle attachments generally(p
6)." And further: "Powerfully developed skeletons attest
to the great strength of some individuals in the past. The
considerable of the vertebral border of the shoulder blades
(scapulae) in male skeletons in particular reflects the
development of the shoulder and arm muscles(p 30)." That
more recent Laughlin reference George gave sounds like a
bell ringer -- gotta get it!
