experience is the same as Lew's. I really recommend the yellow cedar, but
it may be somewhat hard to get. You can probably get some mailed to you via
Flounder Bay Lumber in Anacortes, or look locally. good luck!

I used 5/8 x 1/4" white oak on my first two boats and am using yellow cedar
on
my third. Yellow cedar ribs will save 7.5lbs over the same number of oak
ribs.
The yellow cedar ribs and some other things I'm doing will reduce the boat
weight from 36lbs to 25lbs or less. My target weight is a very achievable
23lbs. (boat 17'6"x21", 18 at WL)
