Scarfed joints bend more (very much) consistently than knotted wood in
my experience. Scarf however was a 1:10 ratio glued with epoxy after
being pegged with little wooden pins to keep in place while glueing.
Just put the two pieces of stock side by side and use a fine kerf saw
with a ridge on the back (forgot the english name).
I used low grade white fir and knothing would be longer than 13.5 ft in
our lumber stores, so it was an obligation.
