We do all ours that way, free floating cockpit rims. Only hitch is that you
would have to coat the boat outside, but given some mild temps and a couple
days of no rain, that can be done. Good luck!

Are you sure? I got my baidarka out the basement window. You previously
mentioned the basement window was 2 foot by 1 foot. A 2 foot by 1 foot
opening should be big enough to get your boat out. Admittedly you'll have
to carefully check boat depth, but width should be easy. I would consider
attaching the cockpit coaming to the skin instead of the frame, that way
you could attach the cockpit coaming after the boat leaves the basement.
