Wayne,

The dry pigments are very "dense" colors. You do not need a lot, in fact
if you change the texture of the medium you have way more than you need for
just color. When I use it for art I "eye balled" the amount of pigment by
color, mixing it in until I get the coverage I like by brushing it on a
white blotter. It does not take a whole lot to get complete coverage of
the under layer, when I first started mixing my own pigments I sometimes
would put too much in if I wanted the under layers to show through (which
is the advantage in mixing your own colors). In fact if you mix it so the
white under coat shows through slightly you will get an interesting
"luminous" affect, as the light reflects off the white under layer and
comes back through the medium.

I would also suggest using only one pigment and carefully record the ratio,
if you mix pigments to get the color you like it becomes a frustrating
trial and error process to match it again later.

depending on the shade and the density you mix, it could either darken or
lighten when it dries. So try to stick with what you started with the
first time.

I received my dry pigments today from Daniel Smith Co. Looks like nice
stuff, and since it contains quartz i suspect it might help fill the weave
much as silica filler might.

Has anyone roughly worked out a range of how much pigment per volume of
polyurethane is needed, so I dont have to waste too much more poly on
testing?
I bought a pound since its only twice the cost of 2 oz, so wasting some
pigment isnt a concern
