Bob,
I also have a concrete floor and am just finishing my 3rd kayak based on
Putz's book. The 1st was very close to specs, the 2nd was 'skinned' in
plywood and fiberglass, and the third is 2" narrower than spec. I shortened
all of my forms and attached them to a 'T' beam/strongback. I put the 'T'
beam on a table made of a sheet of particle board and 2x4s that I made for
another project. Having everything sitting on a table is great for keeping
your tools handy while working on the kayak. If you want, I could send you
the dimensions of the shortened forms. The shortened forms also use less
wood.
You may have heard this before, but I highly recommend raising the bow a
few/several inches to more closely match Skene's original plans and
Chappele's (sp?) drawings. Putz straighted out the sheer significantly in
his version of the kayak.
I will be giving a demo on building a Putz style kayak this Saturday at the
WEST COAST WOODEN KAYAK RENDEZVOUS in Port Townsend WA at Fort Warden.
Chris Cunningham will be giving a greenland rolling demonstration there on
Sunday.
