On backrests:

I use a piece of cut foam which mostly supports well below my waist and
maintains posture. In my Romany it slopes back to prevent the dreaded
impact of the coaming into my back -- i.e., it give me a slope to
approach the coaming. The backband in that boat did nothing but
pinch my butt between the seat and itself. I like carved foam well
placed. How well this works when you don't have a bulkhead behind
is another thing.

I understand Jay Tise may be speaking of sport, but again, I will
deny that Maligiaq is any mere athlete in any country. And beyond
that no "ordinary person" ... judging one's being from afar is poor
practice. I'm not going to go into details, but someday if you
meet him for more than a few hours, you might agree.

>From what little I know, I would agree that Greenlanders are less hung
up on some of these details than we are. (Who us? Anal? What?!)
