I have been switching over almost totally to Japanese food lately. What a
blessing! My weight is finally down to where it should have been all along,
more energy, and a whole new set of tastes. Try making a shrimp omelet with
mirin and soy sauce! I am also trying to develop some Japanese menus for
kayaking, which I would already have had I grown up attending school there.
My friend tells me how her Mom would prepare a lunch for each child in their
own individual aluminum bento boxes, each lunch its own foods, tied in a
printed scarf.
We have so much to learn from our friends there. The woodwork all over Japan
is just stunning, from the temples to the shoji screens. Walls of ricepaper
framed in straight grain pine or cyprus, the light filtered through the wall
as you wake up under a deep feathered quilt to the sweet green smell of your
tatami mat.
