Listen to Dan Schorr on NPR. Listen to talk radio. The wounds here are very
deep, despite the media's attempt to paint everything rosey pink. A dear
friend who was there when Hitler rose to power was speaking tonight of how
familiar the rhetoric sounds. For me, this whole thing brings memories of
the disallusionment that attended our days as we watched in astonishment as
the worst news to come out of Vietnam regarding American complicity proved
shy of the mark. My friends and I are reeling from this sudden loss of
confidence in the safeguards that are supposed to be built into our system
to protect us. I fear we are in for a long cold winter.
