Mark Rogers of Superior Kayaks would agree with you. He says that when he
has finished lashing a keel together -- and he has done dozens, if not
hundreds -- the keel is as rigid as a single piece of wood. Of course, he
probably uses jute. I wonder if leather doesn't stretch more -- anyone know?
