Harvey, do you have any details of how the stem (or bow block as the case
may be) for a Cape Espenberg hull was done? I have lots of photos of the
boat in Sitka, but it is in such good shape (I think we could throw it in
the water and paddle it off...) that I can't tell how they built that bow.
Am planning a new double, thinking of putting a King Island bow on it. Will
use John Heath's "dog" photo to make the pattern. Probably will do a 3-part
lashed and pegged construction rather than a carved bow block, like we have
been doing with the baidarkas. Managed to get to Corey's old wood pile
while he was distracted by new and very pretty lady-type paddler. Knew they
were good for something! I scored a 24' length of Sitka spruce, and a 20'
yellow cedar keel piece. And lets see... 28' of redcedar 1x10, another
block of red for a King Island hull, ............ teehee.
The Orca rebuild is nearly done. She is now much sleeker, with more flair.
Will bring her to the skin boat gathering this year so you can paddle her.

Dear All,
A new kayak replica was just launched-- by my mother. I built her a replica
of the Aasiaat (Egedesminde) kayak of 1960 depicted in P.Scavenius Jensen's
1975 book "Den Gronlandske Kajak og den Redskaber" (plate II). I've just
posted photos (5) on my web-pages's 'Kayak Replicas: Greenland' section
www.pacifier.com/~qayaq) Further details are described on the page as
well as the "Kayak Data & Info" section. She took it on a 6 mile trip on
the Columbia river today-- she really finds it to be comfortable and easy to
control.
Also, I posted pics of my current project: The "Southampton Vicinity" kayak
depicted in Adney & Chappelle (1964) fig. 195, pg. 205. It won't be
finished until late August. Its on the 'Kayak Replicas: Canada' section.
All the Best & enjoy!
Harvey Golden
P.S. She's married.
