Dear Wayne,
Speaking of "Fatal", how's that Caribou kayak coming along? Surf paddling
is a complicated 'genre.' There's the 'zip around and catch waves' sort of
approach and then there's the 'lord, get me through this in one piece'
school of thought. Yes, the retrieval kayaks are in a sense a 'precedent'
of certain river kayaks, whereas most other Inuit and Aleut kayaks seem to
be of the "Lord!" category, though with an occasional disclaimer of
'no-problem' about them. I personally like many-a-Greenland design for such
(on account of their snug roll-ability), but while my experience in surf
with deeper V-decked Alaskan kayaks is llimited, I am interested in hearing
how folks find these to perform in surf. I soon hope to take a skeg-bowed
Eastern Canadian kayak out through the surf-- I expect they are fully
automated broach machines, but am curious to no end, and have often been
wrong in presumptions. . . a bit of back-paddling as a large wave rolls
under ought to render the Eastern-types extremely surf-worthy (Gosh! Does
this depend on my attentiveness?)

P.S. You're ahead of me, Wayne: You can swim! (This is why I use kayaks.)
