Be aware that lengthening the keel like that can affect the ability to turn
the hull out of a trough in a rolling sea.

Mike,
I would lengthen your new boat out to at least 17'6", 18' is not a bad idea
either. a 20" beam will reduce the stability of your design quite a bit and
lengthening it can help to bring some of it back. I've got a 19", 17'6"
skin on frame greenland and it is really touchy at times. The secondary
stability is almost non-existant. Make sure you give your hull enough flare
to provide that secondary stabiliy.
