During the warmer months I go barefoot in my kayaks, but in the colder
weather I use some GoreTex bicycling socks I got from PerformanceBike.com.
They are about $39 but allow me to wade deep enough to get my boats launched
while keeping my feet dry as long as I do not get too deep. Wool socks
underneath provide the insulation. In really cold weather, LLBean fleece
socks do even better.
The are rather fragile though and I use sandles or old boat mocs to protect
them from punctures.
