Nope. <grin>
I realize it's a different culture, but... polynesian paddles are pretty
much exclusively lanceolate (leaf) and often carved from a single piece of
wood. I'm not sure I've ever seen an historical image where a polynesian
paddle had a blunt tip. Apparently they were also quite heavy.
I don't think I've ever read anyone's speculations on a "why" for the shape.
