Well, I've made up my mind. If anyone needs a length of canvas I've got one
for $30 plus S&H. I ordered some nylon today, and (after a year of
boundless lack of enthusiasm) the thought of a slick nylon skin on my boat
(and spring birds chirping) has me excited about building again! Stay tuned
for progress reports on my next boat, which I hope to start before this one
is finished. It will be a fun one, I assure you.

But, for the present I have yet another pesky question. It seems that there
is a tendency for nylon skins to stick to the frame, at least with some
coatings, and that is something I'd like to avoid so as to allow the boat
to move and flex more naturally. It would be easy to prevent it from
sticking to parts like keelson and deck beams by applying a thin line of
waxed paper or something hideous like that, but the other touching parts
like stringers are a bit more problematic unless I want a confetti filled
boat. Any ideas on a liquid nylon-repellant wood coating, or the urethane
nylon coating that will minimize the problem? I really like the way the
water based urethane took to the canvas test strips, and it seemed to stick
to the underlying wood much less than the oil based. Maybe it wont be a
problem with a one part water-base urethane?
