I must be from the provinces, or something. I just rub it on cold, two or
three coats. When the hull is assembled, I paint the hell out of it with
boiled linseed oil. It drips for a day, then I skin it.

I just tried heating the boiled linseed oil before applying to bare wood as
someone suggested, it worked great. It does not penetrate as good as I
hoped however, as soon as the heated oil hits the room temp wood it cools
and does not penetrate as much as I would like.
But the cured finish is superior! I have found that, at least with the
brand of boiled linseed oil I used, that it takes 4-5 day to be dry to the
touch, but the finish is soft and dull with a rough texture. When I heated
the same oil it was dry overnight, and hard, smooth and glossy in two days!
It is like a different finish. I heated it in a microwave oven in a glass
jar, apparently either the heat or the radiation(?) somehow changed the
chemistry to make a better finish.
