Fortunately there now is no additional stress on that joint anymore. Its
essentially a scarf joint now. And I relieved the bending stress on the
other one, just in case, by cutting thorugh the top of the gunnel until I
hit the dart, and I'll peg and lash that down. I did the darts because I
didnt want to do more scarfs, now I have scarfs anyway. Oh well, such is
life. Maybe next time I'll just do a bunch of scarfs and lose the
intermediate step. I should be good at it by then!

Sounds like you "stress relieved" the frame the hard way, ending up with
what you should have started building in the first place.
I am still a little mystified by the description of the "dart" joint; the
images created by my imagination based on your descriptions leave me
wondering at the appropriateness of this joint for the intended purpose.
Do you think you could get a close up picture of this on the web
somewhere? And perhaps a picture of the effect on the hull you are trying
to achieve? It may make more sense if we could see it. Did the museum
kayaks use this kind of joint (without benefit of epoxy)?
