I guess the reason for the closely spaced ribs was that the stringers of the
old Baidarkas were pretty slender.
Seems to me that slender ribs and stringers need to be more closely spaced
than hefty ones. Greenland kayaks have bigger ribs and stringers than Aleut
ones, hence fewer ribs and stringers in Greenland kayaks. I wonder what the
extremes are? Kleppers at one end? What about the other - Plywood kayaks?
