Subject: baidarka Gunwale crack

I was putting morticed deck beams into my gunwales on the weekend and
happenned to have a "too tight" fit. My gunwale started to crack. I
removed the deck beam, enlarged the hole and took a little off the deck beam
and tried it again. The cracks are about 1mm wide at the widest before I
pulled out the deck beam. I filled the crack with "chair doctor" glue. It
is not rated as a strong glue, however I can apply it with a syringe right
into the crack. Then I whipped/ scarffed the effected area with waxed 3-ply
polyester cord. (About 1.5" length of whipping either side of mortice) Is
this good enough?
