I just returned from delivering a load of wood canvas canoes to the Duluth
Pack Store in Minnesota. While I was in Duluth I was determined to find
a lumber yard who specialized in 18' to 20' northern white spruce and ash.
To those interested, I found one!! Contact Woodruff Lumber & Milling, 350
Garfield Ave., Duluth, MN 55802. Telephone # 218-727-6811 or Fax #

Ask for Mickey Ewing (owner) or Paul Larson (contract sales). Both these
guys understand the type of wood we're looking for - Grade 1 or as they
call it, "boat building grade". The Grade 1 spruce & ash will run you about
$5.00 bdft. They are set up to ship anywhere in North America, freight
collect. They also had some 20+ foot white oak, 4/4, ready to go, and they
also carry long mahogany.
