I went to Harvey's talk @ REI yesterday. He had one of his boats (the one
that came off it tie downs on the freeway) and some great slides from his
trip to the Greenland national championship last year. He also had video from
the Greenland TV coverage of the event.

It was fascinating -Harvey did a great job - well worth seeing if you have a
chance.

One thing that really struck me was I had heard that in the artic you simply
stay in the kayak. I guess I hadn't thought that through to what that means.
PFDs were prohibited in the contest and the had "life guards" to perform
Eskimo rescues if you were not able to roll after a capsize. For the races
they didn't wear Tuliqs -short sleeve shirts were worn! The water temp was 34
degrees. brr

I guess I am going to have to get cracking and learn to roll my baidarka.
