Subject: baidarka What a great list to be a part of...

Just doing my weekly e-mail check and reading the posts from the folks on
this list makes me realize what a great "place" this is... seems comfortable
to me.
To sympathise with some of you, I've had Roberts book "preordered" by my
favorite independent bookstore since November, prodding them occaisionally
to find out the status (hopefully later this week{with fingers crossed}). I
try to support the little guys when I can but still seem to find myself
buying most of my lumber at home depot 'cause their hours are so agreeable
to my schedule.
I feel that woodworking (and boatbuilding in particular) is an activity that
lets me reach back into my ancesteral past. Three previous generations
(probably more) in my family were at least part time carpenters or wood
butchers of some sort. A few of the tools I use come from previous
generations and I like to think that their collective memory can help me in
my works. There are times I open the door to the shop and the smells of
wood shavings, linseed oil, and whatever else mix together to take me back
to my grandfathers shop, quite magical, and I'll pause to enjoy the memory.
Thanks for the good writes, keep it up!
Rob August
