Hello,
I'm new around here so please tolerate my newbie questions. Harvey, I was
astonished by the amount of boats that you have built. How long does it take
you (or anyone else) to construct a kayak? Could you point out the common
problems that novices stumble over? And finally, could you please recommend
a traditional type of kayak and umiak that would be good for a first
project.
Look forward to your reply.
Thanks
Stephen Gurban

Subject: [baidarka] New kayak and umiak voyage
Dear All,
A new replica kayak was launched last week-end: Its a copy of an Upernavik
kayak from 1930 (Northern West-Coast Greenland). I've just posted photos
and descriptions on my web-page's "Greenland Kayak Replica" section.
www.pacifier.com/~qayaq. Also, my brother and his wife are rowing an umiak
to Alaska-- from Olympia! I've added a section about this (with photos),
and shall be updating it as I get film from them. Two weeks out, they've
made it past Shaw Island, and are likely in Canada by now.
