Hi,
It's common for boat designers to give their lines in terms of the inside of
the planking. This allows frames to be made directly from the offsets,
without having to allow for the thickness of the planks. Could that have
anything to do with it?
Bill

Subject: [baidarka] Offsets question
Hello all.
I've been digging through the spider webs in the closet lately and I found
a
set of blue prints I was going to make years ago (Dyson 5 meter).
I decided to do a complete computer 3d model of it. In the process I
discovered that the lofted skin derived from the table of offsets provided
didn't match the other parts of the boat. After some investigation (and
double checking my accuracy) I found that the offsets must have been
calculated using the center of the stringers instead of the actual outer
surface of the tubes.
I guess I'm wondering if my theory is correct and why? Has anyone else
noticed this before?
Cheers, Damien
