Many thanks for the nice pictures of that Koryak boat. As far as I know there
are not that many around. Do you have the exact name of the museum where its
located?

Hi Vernon et al.,

I put two pictures of the small Koryak baidarka I saw in a museum in Esso,
Kamchatka two years ago on the web. Unfortunately, they are not great pics
and the museum was pretty dark. The boat is pretty crudely constructed.
One of the pics shows the hand paddles that were used by the Koryaks.

Esso in in the very central part of the Kamchatka Peninsula. The population
is both Koryak and Evenk. Their primary occupation is herding reindeer. In
summer, much of the population is out in the mountains with the herds. They
come into town in the winter. Given Essos location, I imagine this boat
probably saw more lakes and rivers than ocean.
