Subject: baidarka The return of Disko

'Evening Fellow Listers,
I finally got my Disko Bay replica wet last night with non-fatal results.
It's a little squirrelier than the baidarka, but fits better than my
wetsuit, which kinda makes up for it. I'm thinking of having my legs
shortened so that I can get entry times down under 15 minutes, but exit
seems to be less of a problem, as I unfortunately discovered.
Which leads me to my question...how the heck do you get all the water out of
these things? When they're right-side-up, the water runs to the
bottom...when they're upside-down, it runs into the ends. This is especially
frustating because, having unsuccessfully tried (about 37 times) to call
George Dyson for fabric, I sewed on some clear 15 mill thermoplastic
polyurethane that I had lying around, so I can see the water, but can't
remove it (interestingly I could see that it was ice by the time I got
home-the clear skin is actually kinda cool right now, but probably won't be
so great once the mildew gets going).
Anyhow, this is traditional kayak form, so there must be a traditional way
of removing unwanted moisture-anybody know what it is? Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Phil
