I painted my baidarka with gloss oil paint about a year ago. The material
is waterproofed cotton canvas - 10 ounce. I put on just enough to fill the
weave, about 3 coats and it's still a bit 'hairy'. Looks OK though and no
sign of cracking or peeling. I keep the kayak in the garage and make sure
it's reasonably dry between outings.
I plan to rub down in the spring and put on one more coat.
