My baidarkas are covered with nylon and painted with GACO neoprene and
hypalon (i am looking for a polyeurathane clearcoat product for my newest
boat). When I cut my hull(which is very rare considering how I abuse my boats
in rocks, seal-launching, etc.) I seal the raw edge with a
hotknife(soldering iron),stitch it,then work in the "shoo-gu" to keep out
the water and smooth over the repair . This works especially well on the
lower "knob" (jaw) of my "Shields" boat wich frequently got torn before I
covered it with "shoo-gu". (Steve Kaspar gets the credit for telling me
about the "shoo-gu" I guess he had the same problem tearing the skin on the
lower bow of his "Shields" boat also).
