I think I should warn you that you might also find Greenland paddles in
Japan. A couple of years ago I gave permission to someone in Japan to
translate my instructions on making a Greenland paddle for his kayak club's
newsletter. I can just imagine the theories about how Greenland paddles came
to Japan, and discussions about who influenced whom. Dr. Inverbon would have
a field day.

Searching for skin boats is one thing, but what I am more interested in
particularly is the Aleut type of stern. I think that actually has much
more to do with the performance of the hull than is given credit. I am
hoping to see precedent for that kind of integrated keel, that use of
squared off bouyance, no matter the construction material.

Do you or Arima-san know of any particular sources? I am told there is a
collector of paddles on the Izu Penninsula, and a museum in Hakodate.
