...speaking of polyurethane's,
I know a number of people have used one-part polyurethane's (such as the PU
floor finish commonly available in hardware and paint stores) on polyester
or nylon skins and was wondering how they hold up.
Chris Cunningham told me once his started pealing in less than a year of
use, it seems to me that this kind of finish would be too hard and brittle
to apply to a fabric covering, eventually cracking. Yet it seem a popular
sealant. It would be much less expensive than the two-part PU and the
Hypalon, and a lot easier to get.
Have any of you had experience with the one-part PU you could share: what
brand did you use, how has it held up, and have you had any bad or good
experiences with it as a sealant?
Based on what George posted it sounds like the water based PU are not
appropriate for a kayak hull (not surprising).
thanks,
Peter
