such a collection of rules would have to be based on oral
tradition - to verify the oral tradition by looking at
museum boats, you would have to know the actual dimensions
of the builder

it would be interesting to just ask current builders in
greenland what rule they use and contrast that with the size
of their boats and how big they actually are - you then a
have a measure of how closely they adhere to the "rule"

you can then try to collect the same data from builders here
in north america and compare - THAT would be interesting -
it may give an indication of how "stiff" we are as far as
being hung up on rules
