Scott;

Superiority is in the eye (or hands) of the (be)holder.

If an Olympic kayak racer or surf ski racer had to hunt from his boat, he
might change his boat and paddle. If part of their daily routine was to
try to keep an 18" wide boat upright in "interesting conditions" while
using both hands to attach essential food for their family for towing,
they might want an unfeathered paddle so they could stick it under the
deck lines as an outrigger. And if they had a reasonable expectation that
they might have to recover from a capsize with a bunch of gear, plus that
dinner on the boat after paddling for long distances on near frozen water,
they might think about having a paddle designed to give them a very long
lever arm for rolling and a positive grip on the end.

Point being that tools evolve for the task in hand. And the most important
point is that in most of our cases, as recreational (as opposed to
subsistance) paddlers, is that we paddle for the sheer enjoyment of it --
so the surperior paddle is the one that brings the most fun -- in your
case your Werner, in mine a home built. So let's paddle!.

My question is if these paddles are superior paddles, How come Olympic kayak racers don't use them? With all the research that is spent on improving equipment why haven't they realized, according to you guys, that the native paddle is superior????? Why don't surf ski racers use them for the long grueling races in the Pacific??? I tell you I swear by my Werner Carbon fiber feathered paddle.
