It was overcast here in Minnesota this morning, concluding a long stretch of
fine, sunny days. The snow has been melting steadily but not fast. (Unusual
for early March, there is still almost a foot of snow on the ground.) The
Inland Sea Kayakers (http://www.isk.canoe-kayak.org/photos.html) had a
monthly paddle on the Mississippi River February 17, and the Saint Paul
Pioneer Press's story on it a few days later included a color photo of Peter
Graffunder paddling his Greenland skin-on-frame kayak and one of Rich Wahls
doing an otter launch in his plastic kayak (Rich is building a skin-on-frame
kayak for later in the season). The text of the story, based on phone
interviews before the event can be found at
http://www.pioneerpress.com/outdoors/out_docs/008484.htm.
BTW, in case you are wondering, I don't think ice launchings and landings
have been a problem for Peter's kayaks on these outings.

The sun broke out here in Ontario today, finally, and
if this keeps up I'll be eyeing up the water soon. I
hope. The snow, shes a melten!
