Hello there. Currently making a Hooper Bay. Have the gunwales laid out,
working on the deck beams and here is the problem I ran into: I scarfed the
gunwales because I couldn't find long enough pieces of wood. After doing so I
checked the bend (and the strength of the glue) and everything was fine.
Well, I lapped together my 2x4's for the first four deck beams. When I tested
the strength of them by holding one end in each hand and pulling, two failed.
In both cases it was the glue, not the wood that failed. I used a foaming
polyurethane glue.

Apparently some glues withstand a shearing force better than others and some
withstand a "pulling" force better than others. My question is this: How can
I tell which is which?

Vaya Con Dios.
