I used a pattern I bought at a fabric store for a hooded pullover and then
modified it for my needs. I gave myself more room in the shoulders and neck
but with a smaller face hole plus I lengthened it and flared out the bottom
hem till it fit my cockpit. Both have decorative stitching to simulate gut
strips. The first one in brown nylon still works but is ugly. the second one
made of a sheer white rayon suit liner and coated with a mixture of beeswax
and linseed looks like gut, almost transparent but rips easily so I try not
to paddle with it and mostly use it for costume/living history events. My
next one will be made of white ripstop nylon for strength and then will be
seasoned/weathered for that organic look. roll in the dirt with it leave it
wadded up in the bottom of the boat etc.
