Hi,
For what it's worth, I haven't had any rib breakages in the 18 months since
I completed my 'Brinck' baidarka - even though it fell off the car roof at
one point! During construction, though, a couple of my willow ribs did
break when I was trying it for size, and it was at the ends, where they go
into the gun'ls, and before I'd lashed on the stringers.
I don't think it's worth worrying about. A lot would need to break all in
one place to have a noticable effect on strength and performance. Talking
of which, it's a WONDERFUL boat to paddle - fast and stable, too, as well as
incredibly good-looking. A real crowd-puller.
