Bill,
I had the same questions when I started my boat last year. I will be
launching it with-in the next 2 weeks. hear are some of the stats:
Boat is 12' long covered in canvas, built using mostly the design from W.
Brinck's book but much shorter and with some changes to the bow and stern
plates. I would guesstimate that it has so far taken about 60 hours over
the past year. A little over an hour per week. I was in no hurry and was
enjoying the process.

Cost: (Approximate)
Wood for gunnels and deck beams: about $20
Oak for ribs: $35 (Bought more than I needed!)
Draw knife: $25...Only used this for the paddle next time I will buy a spoke
shave which I think has more uses...Most of the paddle was built using a
belt sander.
Artificial Sinew: $17
Books: $40
Canvas: $150
Staples: $15
Beer: $30

The total with out the beer is around: $305. Since this was my first time
building one I over bought on most everything.."just to be safe". With
careful planning and strategic borrowing of tools and materials one could
easily get this number closer to $200.

1st time builder launch in about two weeks.
