I was familiar with the books "starship and canoe" written about George and
Freeman Dyson and "baidarka" written by George. After moving to Washington I
happened to come across an obscure corner building, occupied by Dyson,
Baidarka & Co. And the minute I saw those graceful frames sitting there, I
knew that I had to have one.

I did get all materials from "Dyson, Baidarka & Co." The aluminum comes in
20-foot-long sections. You cut all the pieces and bend them: I became quite
good with my tubing bender :-) I chose the 12-ounce nylon skin. That is very
fine stuff, avalable in 8, 12, 15, and 24 ounce weights. I chose 12: a
compromise between weight and my desire for a tough boat. George Dyson sells
all the materials or you can just buy the plans.
The process is clean, except for the deburring and painting you can do it in
the living room. There is a manual online on the Guillemot website.
