I agree with Gerald...it is usually a nerve compression.
I used to get a numb right leg in a mass produced plastic sea kayak.
On one occaision I stepped out of the kayak onto my right leg.
With absolutely no feeling in that leg I fell crashing to the ground.
This provided much amusement.
the solution was change kayak and hence change seats
