I've gotten burned a couple of times with tools from the cheapo stores (in particular christmas tree shops and joblots on cape cod).
One was a ruler incorrectly marked. 1 inch on the ruler was really about 7/8 inch.
The second was some small C clamps. The pad, on the screw, was a hollow cone
not a flat surface. It cut a round hole when used on thin or soft material.
